When grading may help
Grading changes the surface slope so rainwater moves away from the home instead of collecting beside a slab, driveway, crawlspace, or low lawn area.
- Water repeatedly flows toward the foundation
- Low spots hold water after storms
- Runoff cuts channels through soil or landscaping
- Downspout water cannot move to a safe discharge point
Grading is only one part of drainage planning
Some properties also need catch basins, French drains, downspout extensions, swales, or underground pipe. An independent drainage professional can inspect the slope, soil, and available discharge route.
